Inter-caste marriages to be held on April 5
Basheerbagh: On the occasion of Dr B R Ambedkar birth anniversary, Dalitha Kalyana Vedika Sangam (DKVS) will be conducting 100 inter-national, inter-caste and inter-religious marriages on April 5 at Babu Jagjivanram statue, opposite Nizam College, Basheerbagh.
Stating this at a media meet here on Thursday, Sangam founder president Renukuntla Yellaiah and other office-bearers said girls who have completed 18 years of age and boys, who have crossed 21 years of age, are eligible for the marriage. Yellaiah said they had been conducting such marriages free of cost for the past 24 years with a view to eradicating the evils of caste system, untouchability and dowry.
He said that the inter-caste and inter-religious couples were entitled to get Rs 51,000 from the government apart from award of 'ideal couple'. The organisation is conducting free marriages of orphans and children of prisoners. He regretted that the government was not fulfilling the promises made for the inter-caste and inter-religious married couples.
