International conference held on sustainable development goals
Basheerbagh: As part of Mahatma Gandhi 150th birth anniversary celebrations, Gandhi Global Family, Gandhi GnanPratishtan and the Federation of Intermediate Teachers and Employees Associations jointly held an international conference on the topic, "Sustainable Development Goals-2030" here on Monday.
Professor K Purshottam Reddy attended the programme as the chief guest. He, along with president of Gandhi Family organizations of AP and Telangana Dr GunnaRajender Reddy, Sudheegham, noted environmentalist, president of Jala Sadhana Samithi D Sathyanarayana, Professor Vijaya Bhaskar and Manga Reddy, spoke on the occasion.
Speakers spoke on the importance of the 17th sustainable development goals defined by United Nations and opined that any nation can develop only when the goals are fully realised.
They also discussed on various aspects of the goals, such as environmental protection, hunger-free society, proper healthcare, quality education, gender equality, clean and safe water, sanitation, use of cheap unconventional energy resources, employment, financial progress, industrialization, creation of basic amenities, inequity, self-sustainable cities and societies, agriculture, elimination of poverty and others.
Some speakers also focused on the Gandhian way of living and on the importance of 11 principles of Gandhi's non-violence, truth, abstinence, self-discipline, good behaviour, shramdanam, use of local goods (swadeshi) and the elimination of untouchability, which were mentioned by Gandhi in his book "Manavali," for realising the sustainable development goals.
Librararian union leader Dr Ravishankar, Venkatrami Reddy, Lakshma Reddy, private and government school managements association leader Mohan, advisor of Gandhi Global Family and Ganti John Pratishtan Dona Reddy, General Secretary T Purushottam Reddy, Secretary Yanala Prabhakar Reddy, Rajendra Babu, Dr Palayam, Dr Pichaiah, Dr Sridhar, Nagati Narayana, Damodharachari, Mallaiah, Hanmanth Reddy and others participated in the meeting.
