Khairatabad Ganesha to appear as Ganapathi

Khairatabad: The much-talked about giant Ganapathi idol installed at Khairatabad in different shapes and sizes every year, He will give darshan to devotees as Sri Dwadashaditya Maha Ganapathi on Bhadrapada Shudda Chavithi (Vinayaka Chathurthi festival) on September 2 this year.

The Khairatabad Ganesh utsava committee members here on Tuesday unveiled a replica of the giant idol at a programme organised at the Ganesh Mantap. Utsava committee chairman Sudarshan, idol sculptor Rajendran and others explained about the salient features of Sri Dwadashaditya Maha Ganapathi. The huge idol will be 61-ft tall and 28-ft wide. In this connection, the Utsava committee constructed a 65 feet high shed for the idol.

The face of the idol will look like the Sun, with 12 heads, 24 hands, adorned with 12 serpents and riding a chariot with seven horses. They said on both sides, idols of Suddha Kunjiga Devi and Dattatraya. On the right side idols of Sri Maha Vishnu and Ekadasha Devi will be arranged in a separate small mantap. On the left side, idols of Goddess Maha Kali along with idols of Vishnu, Eshwara and Brahma will be installed. All these small idols will be 16 feet high.
