Krishnakanth Park cries for attention

Yousufguda: The morning walkers numbering close to 400 are a miffed lot. Reason: An open drain that passes through the Krishnakanth Park is causing an unbearable stench. While the park manages to get revenue of Rs 20,000 per day by ways of entry fee, the amenities are far from satisfactory say walkers and visitors. Rs 10 for adults, Rs 2 for children and for children below 5 years are free.

Walkers pour complaints for its bad odour. The contractor Subbareddy and supervisor Saidulu speaking to The Hans India said, "We are trying our best to keep the place clean but due to financial crunch we are unable to provide better facilities."

It may be noted that the open drain flowing through the park has been a contentious issue for years. The park spread over 22 acres is manned by 18 security guards and 16 maintenance staff. An employee, Mallana says, "There have been several representations unless the GHMC takes it up on priority basis the situation would not improve."

Gardeners too share their woes, "There is less water but the area is too large." "It would be helpful to the visitors if they maintain proper water supply and have tidy washrooms," said Annapurna from SR Nagar. "I visit the park twice a day. It's really pretty cool place to come and study under trees," says Dhanraj, an MBA graduate from Motinagar . He however added, "The dump yard is a dampener."

Sandeep, a resident of Yousufguda preparing for SI exams, says, "The equipment in the park is damaged and benches broken. So, mostly I prefer to sit down and study for exams, water supply in the park is very poor, it would be a great help if park authorities provides water."
