Maintenance of nalas is going from bad to worse

Secunderabad Cantonment: The maintenance of nalas in Secunderabad Cantonment limits is turning from bad to worse on a daily basis, as they are brimming with of wastes.

Although the people's representatives have been bringing this issue to the notice of the officials concerned, the latter are allegedly adopting a negligent attitude. The officialdom is showing no interest in sanctioning funds for refurbishing nalas. Following the Friday's rain, several nalas in the Begumpet division got filled with trash.

Residents of Patnynagar and traders are allegedly dumping tonnes of wastes in the nalas both during day and night, leading to water stagnation. Following pressure from the public, officials are allegedly taking up only notional cleaning of nalas on the eve of festivals only for receiving bribes, some residents of Tadband, Annanagar, Rasulpura told The Hans India.

They complained that when the nalas in these areas would be cleared. They accused officials of allotting nala-cleaning work to their favourites and alleged that the cleared wastes are being dumped abutting the nala itself because which they flow back, bringing the situation back to square one.

In some cases the wastes get piled up causing severe hardship to local residents, who have to put with unbearable stench, mosquito menace. The residents have appealed to the Cantonment Board officials to undertake an inspection of the nalas and order their cleaning on a regular basis.
