Making maths learning a fun: Tech tools come handy
Amid all the uncertainty in pandemic, with a sudden shift away from classrooms, in-personal learning shut from kindergarten through colleges, Maths teachers are learning the latest technological tools to engage their students through online classes.
GeoGebra, Desmos, Robocompass are a few tools that help students visualise the concepts. The videos shared in their WhatsApp groups help children to view repeatedly if they have doubts. Teachers need more time for preparation for online classes, compared to regular physical classroom teaching.
Speaking to The Hans India, V Padma Priya, Maths teacher, Govt Neruda Memorial High School, said, "In my case, equipment to connect and network are the issues. We tried to take the help of NGOs, like TFI and 511, to provide tabs and phones to needy students. Short videos related to the topics covering the entire syllabus are prepared along with a worksheet and an assessment at the end of each chapter. This is a structured way of learning." She adds "nothing can replace a physical classroom interaction, where teachers can easily know how far students are paying attention."
Shubhangi Katre, a Maths teacher at Delhi World Public School, Kompally, said "it's easy to learn mathematical concepts by conducting several activities in a virtual class. In fact, advanced technology such as Google forms, Microsoft team form, helps students to have a comprehensive study of technology."
However, most teachers agree that nothing can replace a physical classroom interaction where teachers can easily know how far students are paying attention.
