Khairatabad: A team of Mala Mahanadu leaders led by its president Chennaiah met Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum.

Later, speaking to media, Mala Mahanadu president Chennaiah said that they requested the Governor to ensure that measures be taken by the state government to prevent misuse of SC/ST Special Development Funds.

He alleged that about Rs 23 crore of SC, ST special development funds were being diverted. He pointed out that about 10,406 cases were registered under the SC/ST Atrocity Act after the formation of the Telangana state. The state government thus failed miserably to prevent atrocity cases in the state, he said.

Reservations to SCs need to be increased from 15 per cent to 18 per cent, based on their population. Mala Mahanadu also requested the Governor to instruct the government not to go for SC categorisation, which was rejected by Supreme Court as well as National SC/ST Commission, he said. He said that the Governor had assured the team to look into their demands.

Telangana Mala Mahanadu working president Janga Srinivas, national general secretary V Bhaskar, women division secretary Chandralekha, G Ramesh and others were present on the occasion.
