Meet on total knee replacement held
Hyderabad: The Orthopaedic Department of KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, in association with Telangana Orthopedic Surgeons Association and TCOS, organised 'Revision Knee Master Class Programme' or 'Revision Total Knee Replacement' (RTKR) course on Friday for the orthopedic surgeons across the two Telugu states. Surgeons from across the States who completed their MS or DNB have attended the course during which the eminent national and international faculty discussed treatment options for Revision Cases and Complex Case Discussions along with revision live surgeries.
The one-day course was divided into six sessions which included live surgeries. It covered various topics including: Complications in TKA, Primary Complex TKR & Principles of Revision, detailed explanation on the various techniques used by surgeons during knee replacement, Infected TKR & Treatment options for Revision TKR, followed by discussion of complex case studies by the experts in the field.
Dr Uday Krishna Myneni, Course Chairman and Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon, KIMS Hospitals, said a panel of experts with a great depth of experience in total knee replacement was part of the panel. The members passed on their knowledge of issues in day-to-day practice in both primary and revision surgery. The aim of the course was to provide younger joint replacement specialists with an update on the latest in techniques and treatments.
Dr B Bhaskar Rao, MD & CEO, KIMS Hospitals, said a course like this would be very useful for the young surgeons. It will help every patient get best treatment without having to go for a revision, which can sometimes be more expensive than the Primary TKR surgery."
Although Total Knee replacement is one of the most successful procedures which enable people to have healthier life; there are chances of failure for the due to different reasons. And only in case of failure, a revision TKR is advised. This revision surgery is different than primary total knee replacement. It is a more expensive and surgically demanding procedure. It also requires extensive planning and specialised implants and tools to achieve a good result.
