MLA Arekapudi Gandhi, launches Recyclothon initiative by ITC Wow
Serilingampally: Local MLA Arekapudi Gandhi, along with GHMC Deputy Commissioner Venkanna and other officials, launched the Recyclothon (collection of plastic, electronic and paper wastes from houses) programme taken up by ITC Wow at Rajiv Gruhakalpa in Papireddy Colony on Sunday.
Speaking at the event, the MLA stated that voluntary organisations, colony welfare associations and local people were being made partners in the Swachh programmes as part of the Recyclothon. He stressed the need for people's cooperation in achieving quality Swachhata, while advising them not to recklessly dump garbage in open places but to hand it over to GHMC workers or Swachh autos.
Gandhi also urged that people take up rain water-harvesting structures in every house so as to ensure that there would be no water scarcity in the future. Every person should also plant five saplings, he gave a call. He underlined the importance of people maintaining surroundings clean, conserving water, planting trees to ensure protection to the environment and to shun plastic items.
Gandhi called upon people to give up using plastic covers to prevent degeneration of soil and pointed out that the GHMC was promoting jute bags as replacements for plastic items. "Every household should use jute bags instead of plastic covers." Among those present were GHMC Health Officer Bindu, TRS leaders U Srikanth, E Srinivas Yadav, Kondal Reddy, P Rambabu, Basavayya, Yogi, Srikala and Soujanya, and colony residents.
