Musheerabad in grip of viral fevers

Musheerabad: A spate of viral fevers are being reported in the Musheerabad constituency. Most of the patients are from colonies and slums adjoining drainage nalas, and this may be due to poor sanitation near nalas.

The reports of deaths due to dengue and an increase in dengue cases has been a cause of worry among residents of the constituency. The State government has failed miserably in taking preventive steps, many opined. As per official statistics, about 12 cases of dengue have been reported in the constituency alone. Most of the cases were reported from Bholakpur, Ramnagar and Kavadiguda areas.

Alerted by spike in viral fever cases, GHMC announced several preventive measures and free medical camps in the problematic areas. However, as only one fogging machine has been allotted per division, the mosquito prevention activities are going on a very slow pace. Locals, speaking to THI, have demanded the officials to respond to the alarming situation and take necessary preventive steps to stop mosquito proliferation.

Umesh, a resident of Arundhati Nagar, opined that slums near open nalas such as Arundhati Nagar and Sabarmati Nagar are most affected and GHMC officials need to lay special focus on such areas. Dr Srikanth of Arundhati Nagar basti dawakhana said the number of patients visiting the hospital have increased in the monsoon season.

The number of patients suffering from viral fevers have doubled in this monsoon season and OP is kept open in the evenings as well. The serious cases are being referred to Gandhi Hospital, he said. Anwar, a resident of Bholakpur, expressed his concern over issues of contaminated water and overflowing drainages in their area and urged officials take special care of the area.
