National Survey Day celebrations held
Hyderabad: The Institution of Engineers (India) Telangana State Centre (IEITSC) and GeoMap Society (GEMS) jointly organized National Survey Day-2019 with the theme: 'Photogrammetric Surveys.'
Dr IV Muralikrishna, former Dr Rajaramanna DRDO Distinguished Fellow and Director (R&D) of JNTUH, Hyderabad, graced the function as the chief guest and delivered a lecture on, 'Artificial Intelligence and Surveying Technology.'
During his address, Dr Muralikrishna said that Artificial Intelligence refers to a broad field of science encompassing a range of subjects from Computer Science, Psychology, Philosophy to Linguistics. It is primarily concerned with getting machines to do tasks that would normally require human intelligence. Technology for land surveying and subsequent development has seen a lot of investment over the last few years.
Huge portion of that investment has gone towards digitisation of different parts of the development workflow. Terrain models have changed the way that large scale projects are designed, the project management and issue management processes have moved to the cloud, operations management is also becoming more "sensorized" and automated.
With the availability of data, artificial intelligence-based applications have been finding more utility in civil engineering construction in general and surveying in particular. Drones are advancing civil engineering and surveying. Artificial Intelligence in Drones application is very much significant for construction, smart cities, emergencies, farming, industrial infrastructure, real time data and amateur drones.
Large volumes of unstructured and structured data are being generated in the name of Big Data which is the term for large and complex data sets. Data is usually described by the four V's - Volume: scale of data; Velocity: analysis of streaming data; Variety: different forms of data; and Veracity: uncertainty of data. Dr G Rameshwar Rao, chairman of IEITSC, presided over the function.
Earlier, Er T Anjaiah, Hon. Secretary of IEITSC, welcomed the gathering. Er G S Kumar, president of GeoMap Society, briefed the gathering about the importance of National Survey Day and Dr M V Venkateswara Rao, Member, IEITSCC, proposed vote of thanks. The chief guest distributed prizes to the students of engineering colleges for excelling in the National Survey Quiz.
