Nehru Park celebrates Ambedkar’s birth anniv

Bahadurpura: The staff of Nehru Zoological Park on Sunday celebrated the 128th birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar by garlanding the portrait of the architect of the Indian constitution at the main entrance of the zoo.

N Kshitija, Curator, Syed Maqsood Mohiuddin, Assistant Conservator of Forests, G Gnyaneshwar, M Bhavani Shankar, Assistant Curators, D Nagaraju, Deputy Range Officer, garlanded the photograph and paid floral tributes.

Speaking on the occasion, N Kshitija said that Ambedkar was one of the architects of the Indian constitution and that he put all his efforts to eradicate the social evils and to create an equal society for all. "The zoo family works with the spirit of equality and aims to create a harmonious working environment in the zoo, as per the aspirations of Dr BR Ambedkar," she said.

Syed Maqsood Mohiuddin said that Ambedkar was a victim of caste discrimination. His parents hailed from Hindu – Mahar caste (Dalit), which was viewed as 'untouchable' by the upper classes. Due to this Ambedkar had to face severe discrimination from every corner of the society.

Forest Range Officer (FSO) Manjula, K Venkataiah, zoo sergeant, Laxman Naik, garden supervisor, R Papaiah, general secretary of SC&ST Association, B Narsing Rao, treasurer of SC&ST Association, Narender, associate president of SC&ST Association, and Devender, animal keeper, were present on the occasion.
