New initiative against traffic rules violators

Update: 2019-09-15 23:15 IST

ECIL: As per the directions of Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat, Kushaiguda Traffic Police held a special drive at ECIL X Roads on Sunday sensitising citizens on the importance of following traffic rules and regulations.

The initiative is to drive out the fear among people and also ensure that they take corrective measures towards following the traffic rules. It is aimed at curbing four particular violations that include not wearing a helmet while driving, not possessing driving licence, not having Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate and not having vehicle insurance.

Instead of penalising the motorists who violated the rules, the police made them take corrective steps on the spot. Motorists caught without helmet are made to buy helmets on the spot. With the help of insurance officials, the police made sure that the motorists with no insurance buy the documents then and there. A mobile pollution monitoring unit has been kept ready for providing the PUC certificate for those caught driving without a valid certificate.

Minister of IT and Municipal Administration and Urban Development K Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) in his tweet appreciated the move by the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate.

There has been a wide criticism on social media about the new Motor Vehicle Act for quite some time. Netizens who questioned government for levying high penalties, but not maintaining proper infrastructure are also heartily welcoming the initiative.
