One arrested for cybercrime

LB Nagar: The sleuths of cybercrime police, Rachakonda, arrested a person for committing cyber offences here on Wednesday. The accused was identified as Y Varaprasad (29), a resident of Lalaguda.

According to the police, Varaprasad had decided to earn more money fraudulently, as his salary was not sufficient for his lavish lifestyle. In course of time, he started visiting money transfer agents and making transfers of small amounts of Rs 5,000 to his bank account through them.

After winning their trust, he would ask them to transfer higher amounts to an extent of Rs 15,000 to his bank account. Once they transferred the amounts, he would tell them that he would fetch money from his car and leave the place.

He would then immediately switch off his phone. He used this modus operandi to cheat several money transfer agents. When they realised the fraud, they approached the police who threw a dragnet and caught the offender. A case has been registered against him under Sections 417, 420 IPC and Sec. 66D of IT Act. The accused was remanded in judicial custody.
