Osmania University: With the gusty winds with speeds of around 80 kmph tore through the city on Monday, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The Osmania University campus plunged into darkness. Power supply was disrupted as tree branches fell on transmission lines in the evening, thereby snapping power supply on the campus.
A few trees were uprooted and at other places branches were sundered, rendering the movement of pupils on campus difficult. The absence of power supply added to their woes. They were forced to sleep in darkness following disruptions of power supply.
Some of vehicles of students were also damaged as they were parked under trees. PhD students who had been for long on the campus said that this was not the first time the campus bore brunt of a furious nature.
They recalled instances of huge trees falling to ground when strong gales swept them off. The main problem was restoration of power supply which the universities could not ensure in time, they mentioned. Arts College functioned in the dark as there was no power till 4pm. Towards evening, the power supply resumed after authorities swung into action.
