Osmania University: The police on Wednesday prevented a 'shava yatra' (funeral procession) of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao by members of the OU Joint Action Committee (JAC) on the campus on the 12th day of the RTC strike.

They set fire to an effigy of KCR to press the employees' demands like filling of 9,000 vacant posts, re-opening of educational institutions. Tension prevailed between students set to take out the yatra and police, who tried to block them.

The students managed to place KCR's portrait on the 'pade' and paraded it before setting it on fire in front of the Arts College. Later, they told the media that steps should be taken to avert loss of academic schedule on account of holidays.

They accused KCR of 'cheating' all sections of people, while contending that it was because of his decisions that the RTC employees and students were 'forced to suffer heavy losses'. Members of the JAC appealed to students to make the October 19 State bandh successful.
