Over 637 trees uprooted in city

Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has said in the past two days a total of 637 trees had been uprooted due to heavy rains and gales in the city.

According to GHMC Urban Biodiversity division, Secunderabad zone is the one with the highest number of trees uprooted (297), followed by Charminar zone with 145 trees, LB Nagar zone with 86 trees, Khairatabad zone with 84 trees, Kukatpally zone 18 and Serilingampally zone 7.

Additional Commissioner for Urban Biodiversity Krishna said, "With the help of GHMC disaster management team, we have cleared the uprooted trees from the roads and highways.

There are more than 70% of the green foliage trees in the city, and they are the most uprooted trees in the past two days, besides Neem, Tamarind and Peepal trees. He also said that no cases of destructions to the houses had been reported due to the felling of the trees. The staff is engaged in clearing of the collapsed trees and the broken branches.

The city netizens are applauding the disaster management teams for their efforts in clearing the roads and helping the rain-affected areas. Especially, and the timely response of the disaster teams in the incidence of collapse of flood light tower at the LB Stadium is being applauded by the netizens on social media.
