Bowenpally: Due to heavy downpour on Tuesday evening, the Ramanna Kunta lake water overflowed into streets and nearby residences. Residents complained that they face this overflowing issue whenever there is rain with such intensity. Around 500 residents reside around the lake in Bowenpally and they demand a permanent solution.

Maruthi Nagar, Seetharampuram, Ganesh Nagar, Soujanya Colony, and New City Colony, all of which are located on the low-lying side of the lake, are mostly affected due to the overflow. "This issue was taken to notice of the authorities concerned, but in vain.

Two years back the SCB officials assured us that they would construct a sewage pipeline but no concrete action has been taken. Especially during monsoon, it becomes very difficult, as the lake water along with sewage water is entering the lanes and our houses," said Srikanth, a resident of Bapuji Nagar

"The locals over here are worried that the lake has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and also sewage water with lake water is entering streets and houses. During a heavy downpour, we are forced to spend sleepless nights as water from the lake often enters houses," said Srinivas, a resident of Seetharampuram. "Always the next day after the issue, SCB workers visit the place and clear the silt.

We want a permanent solution as this issue has become perennial," said Rajani, resident of Soujanya Colony. Speaking on this issue, Maheshwar Reddy, SCB ward member-1 said "Due to low-lying area and due to heavy downpour, lake water overflow has occurred.

Today, temporary measures were taken by clearing the slit." He further said an amount of Rs 80 lakh was sanctioned by the state government to Hyderabad Metro Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMW&SB) for construction of sewage pipeline. The Board is yet to release the amount.
