People sensitised on free legal aid to poor

Keesara: The Telangana State Legal Services Authority organised 'Mahanyaya Vignana Mariyu Samskhema Pathakala Sadhikara Sadassu,' a programme to increase awareness on legal services and welfare schemes of both state and central governments, at KBR Gardens here on Saturday. Chief justice of united Rangareddy district court Renuka Yadav presided the programme.

Renuka Yadav said that Supreme Court has initiated measures for speedy trials through Lokayukta in view of piling of court cases. Explaining the objective of the awareness programme, she said that the programme intends to increase awareness among people on free legal services as most of the poor and illiterates have not been able to get justice. The district officials have also arranged various stalls at the venue of the programme to increase awareness on various central and state government welfare schemes, she said.

Senior judge and Secretary of SLSA Uday Kumar said the primary objective of the programme was to increase awareness among people about various central and state government welfare schemes, apart from providing knowledge about legal services provided by them. free legal counselling, legal advice and other services provided by them to poor whose income is below Rs 3 lakh per year, SCs, STs and disabled.

District Joint Collector D Srinivas Reddy said that the programme was conducted in coordination with 17 state departments and provided information about various central and state government schemes, nine different pensions given through DRDO and legal services. Prominent among those who attended the programme were additional judges Bhavani Chandra and Jayaprakash, LB Nagar Bar Council president Srinivas, Malkajgiri Bar Council president Yadagiri, LB Nagar DCP Sandeep, DRO Madhukar Reddy, RDOs Lachi Reddy, Madhusudan, Keesara sarpanch Madhuri Venkatesh and others.
