Pigs menace pesters residential areas
Bowenpally: Residents of several colonies in Bowenpally area have complained about growing stray pig menace in their areas. Despite several complaints to Cantonment Board officials, the problem remained unresolved.
They said they also made several requests to the person who rears pigs to take them away, but to no avail. The problem has aggravated recently as more pigs are left to roam in their areas. The people expressed fears that the presence of pigs in this monsoon season may result in proliferation of contagious diseases such as Swine flu and Japanese Encephalitis.
Locals complained that the person who rears pigs often brings waste food from nearby dhabas and dumps it in the colonies to feed pigs, resulting in unhygienic conditions and foul smell. Some residents of Hasmathpet, Anjaiah Nagar and Gangaputra Colony said that pigs even attacked some persons. They appealed to the Board officials to take necessary measures to address the issue and also organise medical camps in the areas to raise health awareness.
