Plastic, garbage choke nalas; locals resent
Serilingampally: Desilting of drains taken up by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) ahead of monsoon shows the extent of plastic waste dumped in nalas.
Residents of Serilingampally alleged that the ignorance of an open nala by the GHMC officials which has become a reason for their miserable situation of the residents is clogged with plastic bags and garbage dump.
"In the absence of garbage bin people keep throwing the waste and plastic bags in the Nala. We do educate them against such practice, but we cannot stop them throwing garbage. We request the GHMC officials to resolve the issue as this problem is pending for months now," said a local resident.
Dumping plastic remains a major reason for waterlogged streets and low-lying areas getting inundated. The nala reek foul smell and is a home for mosquitoes and rodents.
"We have a lot of mosquitoes due to the foul smell; we are worried that our kids' might fell sick. We requested the officials to put a safety fence so that no one tips and fell inside but it is still in vain," added the resident.
