Plastic wraps on bouquets face ban

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to ban wrapping of plastic covers for flower bouquets provided during various functions, celebrations and other events in Greater Hyderabad.

GHMC Commissioner M Dana Kishore announced that the wrapping of plastic for the flower bouquets would be banned soon, as the plastic wraps that are less than 50 microns are a serious threat to the environment, he said.

Dana Kishore held a meeting with shop owners of the flower bouquets at GHMC office on Friday. Khairatabad zonal commissioner Mushraff Ali, medical officer Bhargav Narayan present at the meeting. Commissioner said that plastic wraps which is being used for the bouquets dumped in nalas and lakes which is very harmful to the environment.

He said that plastic wraps for bouquets would be banned soon, and that instead of plastic, only wrappers, paper, cloath and biodegradable covers should be wrapped.It is estimated that there are about 500 flower bouquets shops in city. Dana Kishore said this matter would be taken up at the standing committee meeting to get its approval.
