Plea to curb illegal water business

Kukatpally: The Gopalnagar Residents' Welfare Association on Friday represented to Kukatpally MRO Nirmala on the hardships facing people in the constituency, particularly in Gopalnagar, following illegal water business being done there using unauthorised borewells.

The representation stated that water traders were supplying 150 to 200 tankers daily and earning lakhs. As a result of the exploitation of the bores by the traders the groundwater levels in adjoining areas was falling. Consequently owners in the adjoining bores were forced to purchase water.

The association members told The Hans India that the MRO responded positively with a promise to take immediate action. She assured the association to deploy the department staff to the spots where illegal bores are located and seize them. Nirmala also stated that the issue would be discussed with Transco AE to disconnect power supply to the illegal borewells.
