Addressing the gathering, Shetty stated that Patel was able to end the uncertainty and threat to the country's unity with his tactful handling of the sensitive issue and helped annex 565 small kingdoms into the Indian Union. He recalled that the 'Iron Man' through the Operation Polo brought Hyderabad princely State into the Indian Union.

Referring to Jammu and Kashmir, Raju remarked that the former King Raja Hari Singh had announced its merger with India, but Pakistan encouraged separatists in the State leading to opposition of the merger. "Although Patel wanted to find a permanent solution to the State through Army action, the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru did not agree to it.

This gave rise to Article 370, 35 A, which led to destruction for 75 years." The Narendra Modi government, he pointed out, had taken a bold decision to scrap the special status to J&K and merged it with the country.

Among those present on the occasion included secretary of RR district unit Sailakshmi, centre in-charge Qadir Saleem, Rambabu Koti, Sumana, Sowjanya, Giri, Mahesh and Anil.
