PMMY provided loans to 43L State beneficiaries: Laxman

Hyderabad: MP and BJP OBC Morcha national president Dr K Laxman has said 42,26,917 benefited under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) in Telangana since the 2018-19 financial year.

Responding to a question in the Rajya Sabha by Dr. Laxman, Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Bhanu Pratap Singh gave year-wise details of the PMMY beneficiaries. They were provided Rs 38,159.42-crore loans.

The minister said the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) have conducted a large sample survey at the national level to estimate employment generation under PMMY. The survey results show PMMY helped in generation of 1.12 crore net additional employment during a period of approximately three years from 2015.

At an overall level, the Shishu category of loan has about 66 per cent of share in additional employment generated by establishments owned by MUDRA beneficiaries, followed by the Kishore (19 per cent) and Tarun (15 per cent) categories, respectively.

The DFS informed that data on employment opportunities created under the PMMY scheme is not centrally maintained. As of June 30, this year 42.20 crore loans have been extended under PMMY since its inception. They include more than 11.93 crore loans to the OBC category of borrowers; over 29 crore loans (69 per cent) to women entrepreneurs.
