Rajendranagar : Indoor stadium likely to be ready by April
Rajendranagar: With interior and exterior finishing works being carried out at Indra Reddy Indoor Stadium at Katedan under Rajendranagar, the stadium is all set to be opened by April 2020.
Though the indoor stadium taken up with a budget of Rs 10 crore is considered one of the ambitious projects of GHMC, the delay in release of funds and raising the structure cast a shadow on the schedule of its completion.
Eleven years after the foundation stone was laid in 2008 by the then Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, the construction works have been moving at a snail's pace. The stadium is being constructed in an eight-acre land that would also house a mammoth pavilion on 1.5 acre, facilitating a tennis court inside with a seating capacity of 1,500 spectators.
Now, after 11 long years, the stadium construction has reached its final stages where works of electricity arrangements, toilet fixations and painting are being carried out. According to officials, only electric works and toilet fixations were yet to finish in stadium interiors, while only painting works are left on the outer surface of the stadium.
"With only tail-end works left to finish, it would be completed in the next few months and the stadium would be opened tentatively bt April next year," informed Deputy Executive Engineer (GHMC Projects) Kashif Hussain.
