Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium a huge mess after the mach

Uppal: After the IPL final match on Sunday, plastic waste bags, papers, plates, bottles (which were banned by the police) and placards were found strewn all over on either side of the Uppal-Habsiguda Road and also inside Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.

As the match was between the two hot favourites, Mumbai Indians (who went on to score a narrow one-run victory off the last ball of the match) and Chennai Super kings (the reigning champions) the stadium was packed.

Not surprisingly, filth and waste items were thrown indiscriminately, on both inside and outside the premises. After every match, about 20 auto vans are generally deployed to clean up the waste left behind by the fans. The waste discarded on Sunday night was much more.

Although the police did not allow eatables, the spectators managed to get their favourite food items inside, going by the covers found thrown across the stadium. Even fired crackers after the exciting match were also found.

Concerned citizens told The Hans India that the GHMC officials could have created awareness among the fans to dump waste items in dustbins. Of course, they concede that such course of action would not have helped going by the thousands of people making a beeline at the stadium. However, the citizens observed that the civic could take up the awareness drive in the future.
