Osmania University: State ABVP secretary Ambala Kiran and Greater Hyderabad unit secretary P Srihari on Monday demanded that the Osmania university officials reconsider the degree semester system as it would result in neglect of one year of degree courses.

Addressing a press conference at OU guest house, they demanded commencement of classes of the third and fifth semesters of degree courses without linking them to the first semester. They said students were losing opportunities of appearing for the national level university entrance tests, like HCU, EFLU, because of holding of degree semester examinations even in June.

The ABVP leaders also demanded filling of about 1,248 teaching and thousands of non-teaching posts in all universities across Telangana and creation of basic facilities in varsities. They said mess facilities should be provided in all universities, without collecting deposits, with the government itself bearing the mess charges.

The other demands of ABVP include protecting all lands of universities, de-silting of Mohini Cheruvu in OU so to increase the groundwater level, dropping of plan to construct park and walking track in the name of beautification of Mohini Cheruvu, steps to launch the process of naming new VCs before their terms end, besides constitution of academic bodies. The leaders warned of staging a State-wide agitation if the government failed to act on the demands.
