Residents clamour for tweaking proposed elevated skyway plan

Update: 2024-06-01 09:40 IST

Hyderabad: Locals demand a re-design of the proposed elevated skyway between Gymkhana Grounds and Hakimpet Air Force Station. Locals fear losing their properties in the land acquisition as the government has already started demarcating the lands to be acquired soon. They demanded the state government and Cantonment to re-design the complete plan or provide adequate land compensation.

Locals pointed out that as per the proposed plan, 200 feet of the road will be widened but in this widening process, many property owners will lose their lands. Almost all the land from Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) Secunderabad to Trimulgherry X Roads is privately owned. It will be better if the concerned officials reduce the road widening width from 200 ft to 150 ft, said

locals. Along with properties, due to road widening, several trees may be chopped especially near Secunderabad Club and Gymkhana.

With few of the trees being almost 500 years old, it will be better to translocate them instead of chopping, they pointed out. According to the sources, the demarcation to acquire land for the 18-kilometre for proposed elevated skyway between Gymkhana Grounds and Hakimpet Airforce Station as per the planned, exit and entry ramps at Karkhana, Trimulgherry, and Alwal are proposed on both sides of the skyway.

“Approximately 1,000 owners can lose their properties. The marking has begun, and most of the areas that will be affected are in Karkhana and Trimulgherry, as in these lanes, there are properties that are a decade old. It will be better if concerned officials organise a meeting with the property owners before finalising,” said Suresh, a resident of Trimulgherry.

Telukunta Satish Gupta, social activist and resident of Cantonment, said, “With road cutting and road widening, many properties may be affected and also many huge trees may be chopped. It will be better if the State government and Secunderabad Cantonment officials provide three times compensation on the land value or re-design the proposed plan.”
