Uppuguda: Residents of the Old City, particularly those who reside near the nalas, are urged not to throw garbage in open nalas, which not only is posing a health hazard but will be choking water flow during the rainy season. Stagnation of water creates problems like overflowing and inundation of entire localities.

As part of the initiative 'Saaf Hyderabad – Shaandaar Hyderabad (SHSH),' the GHMC in coordination with an NGO, Save Foundation, organised an awareness rally with schoolchildren in Sai Baba Nagar in Uppuguda under Chandrayangutta Circle here on Thursday.

The students of Sri Vidya Model School, who participated in the programme, also took a pledge to make the city clean as part of SHSH under the 'Swacch Bharat' scheme.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal of the School Mohan Reddy emphasised on the need to create awareness amongst the people about segregation of dry and wet garbage before handing it over to the GHMC's garbage collectors.

Save Foundation CEO M Krishna urged the participants to conserve water and desist from wasting it. He called upon everyone to dig rain water harvesting pits near their apartment complexes or on the premises of their houses as part of the measures to save ground water from depleting.

Location Specific Officers (LSO), Alivelu, Bhikshapathi, Community Resource Persons (CRP), Asma Begum, Rajitha, Vanaja, Sudhakar and representatives from Sai Baba Nagar colony and school staff participated in the programme.

Earlier this week, under the supervision of Uppuguda Circle, the GHMC, HMWSSB and Save Foundation in coordination with Slum Level Federation held a meeting as part of water conservation efforts.

N Venu Gopal, Deputy Project Officer (Urban Community Development) from GHMC, Satyanarayana from HMWSSB visited the households and emphasised on the optimum utilisation of water as part of water conservation efforts.
