Virtual Parties

With no end in sight for Covid anytime soon, can the partying be on the pause for the feisty Hyderabadis? No, they hit it off with friends from afar with virtual parties. Ahead of New Year, as the government banned making merry in the public, and in gatherings, most of the Hyderabadis are voting for virtual and small group parties to ring in the New Year.

Virtual parties are bringing people together, blotting out distances, over a group video chat. All you need is a smartphone, laptop or anything connected with internet and camera.

On their plans for virtual NY party, Veeresh Pandari, a student from Habsiguda, says, "We need to understand the risk of partying in person with your guests. In case you have planned it outside, social distance and other Covid-19 norms need to be strictly maintained for sure to save everyone attending the party. It's still highly risky, hence we all decided to celebrate New Year in virtual mode." " We can have a virtual party where every friend of ours can be available through any video calling application and can play virtually, eat things together, watch movies together. All we need to attend a virtual party is a strong imagination celebrating together staying at our own houses," he added.

"This is a difficult time for every one of us – the most difficult thing is to stay at home and celebrate events with only family members. But if you really want to do a party along with friends and extended family, then the virtual party can be a good option," said Hima Bindhu, teacher, Secunderabad Public School.

Warning their age-group friends, K Abhilash, 15, Sri Chaithanaya School, says, "Party can take place at home, but, the party-giver is answerable for promoting spread of Covid virus if anyone is infected and the complete gang will be quarantined. It is advisable not to promote gatherings of people during tough times, instead enjoy virtual parties for now."

Agree, say many youth who are eagerly looking forward to connect with extended families online to have a blast online. It is the safest way to usher in the New Year.
