Musheerabad: Professor Haragopal, a noted civil rights activist and Civil Rights Association president, expressed his concern on the suppression of civil rights in India.

Democracy is in danger under the rule of Narender Modi, he said. He was speaking at a protest staged at Dharna Chowk on Sunday, demanding the repeal of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), organised by the Federation of Democratic Rights Protection Association.

Civil Rights Association secretary Lakshman, Narayan Rao, TDF convener Chikkudu Prabhakar and other civil rights activists and leaders of leftist associations participated in the program.

Speaking to media, Haragopal questioned the governments how they could address public issues if they send people who raise their voice against them to jails. He urged the intellects and academicians who believe in democratic values to raise their voice against the government oppression.

He demanded the governments to release those persons who were imprisoned under false cases.
