Rotarians raise 1 cr for charitable projects at Hyderabad Golf Club

Hyderabad: Rotary Club of Hyderabad Deccan (RCHD), a primary unit of District 3150 of Rotary International, organised the 5th Edition of Rotary Golf for Charity, an annual golf fund raising tournament, at Hyderabad Golf Club, Seven Tombs, Golconda, on Sunday. Around 124 golfers participated in it.

Addressing the Rotary Golf for charity prize distribution function, Rotary Club of Hyderabad Deccan president Sailesh Gumideli said they were successful in raising an amount of Rs 1 crore and sixty thousand. He further informed that these funds would be used for setting up of dialysis centres at Khammam and Secunderabad; setting up a new diagnostic centre in Secunderabad and setting up of ten e-schools.

In the highly competitive and closely fought tournament among 124 golfers, Gautham V Reddy and Ranadhir Reddy became winners with 42 points. Scoring the same points but based on some other parameters, Hardik Chawla and Rahul Ajay were declared runners-up and Rajiv Ratan and Sanjay V Jerrani were declared second runner up.

Sameer Mahendra bagged a recognition for longest drive (270 yards). And M Ramchandra Reddy won 'closest to pin' award (9 inches). The winners were given away awards. Vinod Arya, Director (fund raising), Vikram Devraj, president of Hyderabad Golf Club, several Rotarians with their spouses, former DGP Swaranjit Singh and others were among those present at the function.

Shailesh Gumideli listed other charity works of the club that include: Blood Donation with mobile blood donation van; Collected 42,000 units of blood; polio eradication; expanding dialysis centre at Secunderabad Gurudwara; Over 30, 367 dialysis conducted at just Rs 300 each; donated flow cytometer for better cancer diagnosis in children; supporting child cancer patients of MNJ Hospital; distributing sewing machines and conducting sewing classes to empower women; English language training to school children.
