Rs 600 cr needed for flyovers, underpasses

Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner M Dana Kishore said that Rs 600 crore would be required to complete the flyovers and underpasses in the first phase of the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP) in Greater Hyderabad. On Thursday, the Commissioner held a review meeting on the aspects of SRDP, drains expansions, land acquisition etc.

The Commissioner said that the SRDP work in the city for signal-free transport has no shortage of funds. The GHMC has collected Rs 3,000 crore under the rupee term loan and it will get these funds after the Election Code of Conduct draws to an end.

Dana Kishore ordered engineers to complete all works on roads, flyovers and underpasses by the end December. He also said the required amount for these projects at Rs 600 crore would be released very soon. The major hurdle for SRDP work is to acquire land for the SRDP works, and the officers concerned were ordered to expedite land acquisition.

As regards land acquisition, extensive awareness programmes should be taken up for providing TDRs for land losers. For the flyover at Amberpet which is 1.6 km long, out of 281 assets required to be taken possession, 171 owners are willing to part with their assets. The Commissioner also ordered that the expansion of drainages should be started before the monsoon season.
