Saaf & Shaandaar Hyderabad only on paper: People

Nacharam: Tall talk by the GHMC officialdom that it would make the City 'saaf' and 'shaandaar' appear to be limited to only announcements and propaganda. The GHMC officials and staff have been holding awareness programmes and administering pledges to people to make their surroundings clean and green.

But, sadly, the reality appears to be entirely different. With piled-up garbage and poor maintenance of roads with potholes visitors to city are sure to get a sore eye. The GHMC officials have miserably failed to devote attention to the twin problems giving a bad name to Hyderabad, as is evident from mounds of garbage seen in almost every colony.

The residents of Nacharam industrial area told The Hans India that they have been facing serious problems from mushrooming mosquitoes boosted by piled up garbage in open plots/areas. They referred to Swachh Bharat slogans on walls in the Nacharam division, and deplored the grossly negligent and indifferent attitude of GHMC to rise to the task, which appears to be really huge.

The residents pointed out the garbage heaps lying in open areas were making their lives miserable, as they can hardly walk there. They allege that with the local industries dumping their wastes openly a horrible stench greets them daily during morning hours. The industries seem to care two hoots for the GHMC warning of imposing fines if garbage is dumped with impunity.

The residents, while expressing anguish, point out that daily the public representatives and GHMC sanitation staff pass through the colonies, but turn a blind eye to the garbage piles and other wastes dumped carelessly in colonies. They want the GHMC to at least react now to the sorry state of affairs, clear the garbage and provide the much-needed relief to people.
