Sadbhavana Award for Dr Gopal Kishan
Hyderabad: A freedom fighter, emeritus professor of nephrology and former superintendent, Osmania General Hospital, would be conferred with Sadbhavana Award on the occasion of 29th Sadbhavana Yatra Commemoration Day at Charminar on Saturday at 10.30 am.
He is one among seven who initiated Telangana movement in 1968. He was general secretary of National Students Union of India (NSUI) during 1956-57. He was detained for two-and-a-half months in Rajahmundry Central Jail under PD Act during Telangana movement in 1969.
On Saturday, AICC In-charge for Telangana State RC Khuntia will be hoisting the party flag. The late Rajiv Gandhi, former prime minister, had hoisted the party flag at this venue and commenced his Sadbhavana Yatra in twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad in 1990 on this day, said member of Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Yatra Commemoration Committee.
The committee has been organising a programme every year for the last 29 years. AICC secretaries Bose Raju, Saleem Ahmed and Sreenivasan Krishnan, Former PCC Presidents, V Hanumantha Rao, Ponnala Lakshamaiah, M A Khan, MP, former ministers J Geetha Reddy, Marri Shashidhar Reddy, Mohd Ali Shabbir, Greater Hyderabad Congress President, M Anjan Kumar Yadav, P Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, ex-MLA and others will participate.
