Scribes urge police to protect mediapersons

Saifabad: Representatives of various journalist unions Telangana Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ), Press Club of Hyderabad (PCH) and Indian Journalists' Union (IJU) met Director General of Police (DGP) Mahender Reddy here on Friday and submitted a memorandum, urging him to take measures to prevent increasing attacks on journalists and protect media freedom.

Journalists who met DGP alleged a conspiracy by a group to curb media freedom in the state. They brought to the notice of DGP that the recent abusive comments in social media against NTV representative Rehana by a Vishwa Hindu Parishad activist and demanded action against him.

Prominent journalists among those who met the DGP include Devulapalli Amar (IJU), former member of PCH Amarnath, TUWJ state general secretary K Virahat Ali, Vice general secretary Vishnudas Srikanth, state committee members A Rajesh, PCH secretary Rajamouli Chari, HUJ president Riaz Ahmed, secretary S Shankar Goud and others.
