Secunderabad Cantonment Board turning blind to civic woes

Mahendra Hills: Residents of Sanjeev Housing Colony, Mahendra Hills are grappling with a lot of problems including lack of streetlights, incomplete drainage infrastructure, bad internal roads, poor condition of parks, pig menace and debris dumped on the road.

The colony comes under the Secunderabad Cantonment Board jurisdiction under Ward No 5. The roads were laid 20 years ago when the colony was formed, now they are in bad condition. Another issue is the lack of street lights.

The presence of drain water that routinely overflows from an open nala and the stink from it is unbearable. The colony also suffers from pig and mosquito menaces as they have increased of late. People are worried over these posing threat to their health. Apart from this, there are just two transformers which are inadequate to manage the load.

"The SCB never solves our problems. Apart from this there is open defence land behind the society. During night time, anti-social elements are at play," said Naresh Bandit, Secretary of Sanjeev Housing Colony, Mahendra Hills.

"We are tired of making complaints to SCB officials about our issues. All the four parks in our colony are in bad condition and pig are roaming inside the parks. Many times we requested the authorities concerned to develop a park," said Hanumanth Rao, resident of Sanjeev Housing Colony, Mahendra Hills.

"The main problems in the society are internal road and sewerage issue. We got the estimated approval from the Board and as soon as the contract gets finalised, we would start the construction," said B Balakrishna, Assistant Engineer, SCB ward -5

"We have received several complaints about the civic issues of this colony from the residents. We are trying to solve it as soon as possible," said Rama Krishna, SCB ward member-5.
