Secunderabad: Irani hotels were hot spots for the aspiring writer, poets artists and romeos. It was the place where one would gather to chat for hours over a cuppa and Osmania biscuits. Irani hotels are now fading away and the round marble top tables are gone and no one sits for a cup of tea.

"A culture is lost. Irani Hotels were places where one ideated. The great M F Hussain would never miss a chance to visit them when in city," says Rakesh M, a resident of West Marredpally.

With Ramser Hotel closing down and Garden Hotel functioning through a small passage, the charm of Irani Hotels are dying a silent death. Ramu, a businessman and resident of Ishaq Colony says, "A rich cultural history is lost. The kadak chai, onion samosa, bun maska and khara biscuits with buns in different shapes and sizes with pasteries were a staple at these Irani Hotels. They had a distinct taste that the younger generation would never be able to savour."
