Severe water shortage in Ameenpur municipality
Ameenpur: Severe water shortage is being experienced in Ameenpur municipality, with the commoner having to shell out Rs,3,000 for a month to secure the elixir of life.
In order to draw officials' attention to the grave situation, the CPI(M) organised a dharna in front of the municipal commissioner's office on Wednesday. The party activists protested against failure of the administration to provide at least drinking water to people.
They wanted the government to expedite completion of the Mission Bhageeratha project to provide water in all 70 colonies of the largest civic body on the outskirts of Mahanagar in Sangareddy district.
The protestors demanded immediate steps to make available water to the rising population. They wanted steps to meet the water shortage in the colonies while pointing out that it was being supplied for only 10 minutes once in a week.
The party leaders informed Municipal Commissioner Vemana Reddy in a representation that as the supply was not even sufficient for daily use, people were forced to be depend on private tankers. "Each tanker is charging Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 in view of the demand. The common man is was unable to purchase water."
The Commissioner told the leaders that the water supply had been cut because of steep fall in groundwater levels. Among those who took part in the dharna were leaders Narsimha Reddy, George, Srinivas, Sunita, Lalita.
