"To achieve a basic sense of satisfaction we need to focus squarely on sanitation and it should be on the top of our basket of priorities. To this we have mooted the idea of promoting local waste management system with a comprehensive approach toward garbage collection. Soon we started setting up facilities in the available spaces. Now we are gradually upscaling the process to ensure there would be no sanitary issues in the future," said Sushma Mahender Reddy, chairperson, Shamshabad Municipality.

"Promoting a comprehensive sanitation system here in Shamshabad Municipality is our top priority to avoid the messy state of sanitary affair witnessed in GHMC limits. To ensure that the waste is recycled, we have set up local solid waste management resource park at Kotwalguda and creating compost from wet waste collected daily from the localities.

We are even promoting a facility like "construction & demolition waste management centre'' at the same location to allow people to dispose of construction debris instead of dumping them on roads and open spaces," informed Mohd. Saber Ali, Commissioner, Shamshabad Municipality.

"Two solid waste management compost centres have been set up here where the garbage collected is systematically segregated. We have introduced 'holy waste compost-cum-nursery' which converts the flowers collected from temples into fine compost," he explained.

About the operations, Shamshabad Municipality Environmental Engineer P Anil Kumar informed, "A team of 192 sanitary staff with 25 auto trolleys are carrying out the door-to-door garbage collection. Also, six tractors, one jetting machine, one JCB, a Dozer, sweeping machine and a digger have been deployed to carry out sanitation task in the municipality."

Further, he said several other projects like parks and gymnasiums have been planned to promote the Shamshabad municipality as a thriving community with all necessary facilitates.
