SHE-toilets defunct, leave users fuming

Secunderabad: A majority of the SHE-toilets in the city are dysfunctional. Several users have been complaining about technical glitches. In spite of inserting coins, the toilet doors do not open. 45 e-toilets were installed in the city of which 25 were she-toilets in 2017.

SHE-toilets in commercial places like Gandhi Statue, Secunderabad, Koti are dysfunctional. "I inserted a coin to use the toilet, after a while it asked me to insert coin again, then I inserted one more coin, it asked me same to 'insert coin' for the third time, then I understood there is some technical issue with the machine. It is so disappointing," said Prathima Reddy, CA.

Speaking of e-toilets, Ravi Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, GHMC, said, "The city has around 23 e-toilets working actively. Water issues were raised at some locations and we started addressing the concerns. We also have e-toilets running with good profits. Women are responding positively on it. The glitches would be corrected soon."

Promising a solution for the raise technical issue to use SHE-toilets, Nalini Padmavathi, the Deputy Commissioner of Secunderabad, stated that she would instruct regional heads to fix all the problems at she-toilets. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) installed 132 BOT toilets, 109 pre-fabricated toilets, 46 Sulabh toilets, 56 engineering toilets in the city.
