Shivrampally HMDA Park to get a facelift

Update: 2019-07-20 02:10 IST

Rajendranagar: Following the news item deserted HMDA Park published in The Hans India, June 18 edition, the authorities concerned have given a nod to the proposal to establish a tree park and walkways and develop the HMDA Park at Shivrampally. The news item had attracted a response from Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar on Twitter, who in turn had directed the Department of Urban Forestry to look into the matter.

Later, a team of officials concerned visited the park on June 19 and took stock of the situation. As impromptu measures, the officials proposed to restore the past glory of the park by developing a tree park along with a walkway to facilitate the locals.

According to the officials, the Department of Urban Forestry even sent a proposal to HMDA seeking approval for the same. Later, the proposal has been provisionally approved by the HMDA and it is learnt that the works will begin within a week or two.

"We have already got the nod from the HMDA to develop Tree Park with a walkway the park located at Shivrampally. Though we have got provisional approval but it would soon reach us formally. If everything goes smoothly the works will begin in two weeks," said Srinath Reddy, Forest Manager Department of Urban Forestry.

It may be mentioned that here that The Hans India found the park, that once served as a nursery was left deserted after the authorities shifted it to other location due to inundation of saplings.

The nursery, that saw several years of existence on the Hyderabad-Bangalore highway, close to National Police Academy, was trampled and the past glory of this otherwise lush green park got lost into oblivion.

With the park wearing a complete deserted look, it became vulnerable for unsocial activities and even encroachments started as it was on a prime location at Hyderabad-Bangalore national highway.
