SLSA asks CP to act on TikTok complaints
Hyderabad: Perturbed by the widespread use of social media platform 'TikTok,' particularly by youth, civil society groups based in city have upped their ante against the app and sought the intervention of none other than the Chief Justice of High Court in 'curbing the menace.'
Responding to this, the Telangana State Legal Service Authority on behalf of CJ has asked the Police Commissioner to take necessary action over the issue. "Neither the parents nor the school and college managements are able to handle the situation as the trend is spreading like a wildfire," bemoaned Mohammed Imam Tahseen, a social activist and president of High-Tech Youth Association, who had filed the petition.
It may be mentioned here that recently the videos of government servants were found busy making TikTok videos. Some videos by women employees in offices have gone viral, raising many eyebrows in the society. Madras High Court was the first to ban this Chinese app for a brief period owing to objectional content on the app going viral.
"Police Commissioner should take a serious note of the issue and corrective steps to be undertaken to stem the tide," said Syed Taraq Quadri, the president of All India Majlis-e-Inquilab-e-Millat party. "Though it is high time to regulate Tik Tok in the Interests of society, at the same breath I oppose any restriction on social media aimed at strangulating voices of dissent which is the hallmark of vibrant democracy," he added.
It is very unfortunate and disappointing to see that students are seeking fame by indulging in rebellious acts. "This practice of making videos all the time would put a catastrophic impact on health and future, especially of young and school-going children. Moreover, the radiation emanating from smart phones would damage the eyesight that may lead to visual problems in future," said Hakeem Syed Abdul Razzack Quadri, Founder of Hazrath Shah Sharfi Foundation.
