Smart airport measures apace

International Airport has a footfall of over 21 million passengers. Every day, the airport handles over 60,000 passengers through both domestic and international arrivals and departures.

Currently, the airport sees more than 500 aircraft movements per day. The airport has 9 domestic and 21 international airlines connecting over 70 destinations in India and across the globe. The airport has recently commissioned 26 new aircraft stands, as part of its massive expansion plan, including the terminal building, airside and landside infrastructure.

The airport has commissioned an exclusive Interim International Departures Terminal (IIDT) in Oct 2018 to de-congest the present terminal for domestic passengers. In March, the airport also commissioned an Interim Domestic Arrivals Terminal (IDAT), a dedicated baggage reclaim concourse in the airside with 4 new baggage carousels for service and operational excellence.

RGIA has embarked on a large-scale expansion project to increase the airport's annual passenger handling capacity beyond 34 million and to introduce a range of new technology enabled solutions to deliver an enhanced passenger experience. The first phase of the expansion of the airport will take around 3 years to get shaped completely.

The vision is to upgrade and expand Hyderabad Airport into a fully tech-enabled smart airport. The expanded facility will also have more number of advanced kiosks, baggage-drop services and security check lanes with Auto Tray Retrieval System (ATRS) among others, informed the sources.
