South Central Railway ranked no.2 zone in passenger transportation
Secunderabad: Top priority to safety and punctuality, and effective utilisation of spare coaches/rakes as special trains helped South Central Railway (SCR) excel in its performance in passenger transportation segment. The zone has been recognised as the second best zone in growth rate of passengers.
The zone has made appropriate arrangements to facilitate passengers and to provide comfortable travel. It carried 4 million passengers more than the previous year (379 millions). This could be achieved due to effective coordination among all the departments. Prompt and timely action taken by officials concerned duly assessing heavy rush periods during holidays, weekends, festivals and other important occasions also helped the zone in attaining this record, said a press release.
Total earnings realised through passenger segment touched Rs 4,059 crore, which is 8% increase than the previous year (Rs 3,749 crore). This growth rate of 8% increase is second best when compared with other zones all over Indian Railways.
Gajanan Mallya, the SCR General Manager, appreciated the consistent efforts made by all the departments involved in transportation of passengers for achieving remarkable growth rate in passenger segment and earning recognition at national level.
As many as 10 new trains were introduced including originating and passing through trains. This includes 3 prestigious Humsafar trains: Lingampalli-Indore Humsafar, Nanded-Jammutawi Humsafar, and Ajmer-Rameswaram Humsafar Express trains. Also 15 pairs of trains were extended to different destinations to provide additional travelling benefits for the required passengers.
