South Central Railway to celebrate its 53rd birth anniversary today

Secunderabad: It was on October 2, 1966, that the South Central Railway (SCR) took birth as the 9th zone in Indian Railways. Today, South Central Railway (SCR), with a route kilometer length of 6,234 Km and 754 stations, acts as the virtual link connecting the North, East and West of the country with the South.

Since its inception, the rail network has gained a substantial 1,083 Route km of new railway lines. Some 1,578 Route Km of doubling & tripling of the railway lines, along with the conversion of 3,605 Route Km from Meter to Broad Gauge under Project 'Uni-Guage,' marked the major achievements of the zone's expansion spree.

SCR has a nominal 11 million tonnes of freight in the year of inception. The fright was 100 million tonnes in 2011-12. It touched the highest ever, 122.5 million tonnes in 2018-19.

The first year of SCR's operations registered 115 million originating passengers, which rose each year and attained the 383 million passenger mark in 2018-19. Revenue earnings of SCR through the five decades upped from Rs 68.06 crore in 1967-68 to Rs 15,640 crore in 2018-19.
