Speed up works on storm water drains, nalas: Dana Kishore

Serilingampally: Commissioner of GHMC M Dana Kishore on Sunday evening ordered expeditious completion of storm water drains and nala expansion works taken up in the West Zone at a cost of Rs 70 crore to prevent flooding due to heavy rains.

He said the works were not progressing during the last two years for some reasons. Addressing a review meeting on SRDP works, construction of drains in the Serilingampally zone, he announced that an additional Rs.10 crore was being sanctioned for the construction of drains.

Dana Kishore pointed out that the government was according utmost priority to creation of basic facilities in Serilingampally zone because of the presence of many national and IT MNCs.

As a result of official negligence, severe hardship was being faced by local residents, he said, adding that the project engineers should issue notifications for acquiring lands/properties which were blocking the construction works of drainages and to find alternative methods to tide over delays.

The GHMC chief directed Zonal Commissioner Hari Chandana to submit proposals for construction of nala retaining walls for the Durgam Cheruvu Nala and others. He noted constrains being faced by the corporation in building storm water/sewerage drains because of the unprecedented construction activity of multi-storeyed buildings in Serilingampally.

He said the compulsory clause that owners of multi-storeyed and villas should themselves construct retaining walls of the adjoining drains should be enforced strictly.

The civic body chief stated that construction of buildings near water bodies in the twin cities was being taken up by securing letters, in the absence of NOCs, from the protection committees. He suggested changes in the town planning regulations regarding submission of NOCs in accordance with the new FTL of water bodies.
