Stop false propaganda on farmer suicides: Niranjan Reddy
Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy on Friday dismissed allegations that the number of farmer suicides are rising in Telangana.
In a statement, he criticised that certain sections have been spreading false propaganda to tar the State government's image. In fact the number of farmers' suicides has been coming down every year in the State, he added.
"The credit for this goes to the foresight of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao". The minister said the number of farmer suicides stood at 846 in 2017; they fell to 352 in 2021, he pointed out.
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar in a written reply to a question by Rajya Sabha member Narayana Das Gupta, had disclosed the details, Reddy said.
He stated that the CM has come to the rescue of more than 90,000 farmers under the Rythu Bhima scheme. "There is no farmer insurance scheme anywhere in the world". Reddy asked the Opposition parties in Telangana to stop false propaganda following the Union minister's statement.
