RR district continues to reel under canine terror
Rangareddy: Amid an increase in the reports of attacks on locals by stray dogs in the Ranga Reddy district towns and villages, the people alleged that both the civic bodies and the Gram Panchayat officials have completely failed to prevent the procreation of stray dogs and combat the upsurge in these attacks. The stray dogs attack the local residents, especially, the children and elderly, triggering panic on the streets.
The distressing incident in Hyderabad city where a four-year-old boy was mauled by a pack of stray dogs on Tuesday, while in an other incident, they attacked five people including two children playing in the street in Rajendranagar on Wednesday, it evoked a strong response from residents in the city.Yet again, on Thursday, four stray dogs attacked, and injured 10 elderly people when all of them were sitting together in the Yacharam Mandal of Ibrahimpatnam constituency. Though the dogs ran away when the locals came with sticks, they immediately rushed the injured to the Yacharam Government Hospital for treatment. Three people who were seriously injured were taken to the fever hospital for better treatment.
Witnessing the menace of stray dogs makes it clear that the government and authorities need to be more vigilant. As summer approaches, these attacks are likely to increase. It is well known that every year at the beginning of summer, street dogs go on a wild outing. Doctors also said that as the temperature rises, dogs get sick and mainly suffer from dehydration. It is explained that the lungs of street dogs are deprived of moisture due to the scorching sun. They said that dogs become very impatient when they do not get water to drink, and they seek shade during summer afternoons. Most of the dogs in the city do not even get shade, and because of this, the temperature of the dogs increases tremendously, so they act wildly. Doctors say that in such situations, they mostly target children who cannot resist them and attack them like wild animals.
After the incident in Yacharam, the village people said that the dog attacks are also getting worse due to stray dogs at chicken farms, mainly in rural areas. Managers of chicken farms are disposing the dead chickens outside and the stray dogs who are eating them are attacking the farmers who are going to the agricultural fields. Locals are urging the panchayat officials to respond immediately and take appropriate measures to prevent dog attacks in rural areas. They said that there is a need for the government and authorities to be more alert.
Stray dogs mainly attack small children in the cities and sometimes leading to the loss of their lives, target and prey on the dumb creatures in the rural areas. They are especially attacking sheep and goat herds and killing them.
Every year there are several incidents of dog attacks on sheep and goat herd during summer. Most of the breeders are not insured and do not receive any financial assistance from the government after the death of the animals, so they lose everything and end up on the streets. The people of the villages also complained that there is no one to care in the villages. There is a need for the authorities to focus on rural areas and take measures to prevent the menace of stray dogs.
